BikeSafe – Bridging the Gap

BikeSafe is a police led initiative that is run by police forces throughout the United Kingdom. Our primary function is to give riders an insight into more advanced riding skills and to encourage riders to take up post test training.
We are about Bridging the Gap into further training.
The scheme commenced in 1997 as part of the 2000 casualty reduction initiative with 13 forces participating. By 2006 this has grown to 36 forces participating, with approximately 5,500 people attending ‘BikeSafe’ sessions annually.
The Department for Transport currently supports BikeSafe through their "Think!" campaign and particularly through the provision of stands at ‘British Super Bikes’ events. You are welcome to come and talk to us at any of the 2006 BSB meetings.
We work with the whole of the biking world to not only help lower the number of motorcycle related casualties on our roads but to encourage and promote better, more enjoyable motorcycling.
BikeSafe offers assessed rides and full day assessment courses at various locations across the country. We provide riders with constructive feedback on their riding ability in a non judgmental, non confrontational environment. By passing on their skills and experience police motorcyclists, and other suitably qualified motorcyclists, will help you become a safer more competent rider who will gain more benefit from your bike.
We also know from feedback received that BikeSafe courses are enjoyable and fun!
There is no doubt that most people will be better riders at the end of a BikeSafe course, however our sessions are not intended as a substitute for professional training and we actively encourage course attendees to go on to take further training with recognised training providers.
On average you should expect to pay £50 for a full day BikeSafe course. However, local subsidies apply in a number of areas that reduce this cost even further. Short assessed rides are usually free of charge.

Remember ... The best performance modification you can make to a motorcycle is to improve the skills of the rider!
